Couldn't find any blogs or videos of how to change the belt on R35 anywhere else so I'm providing some handy instructions for anyone looking to carry out this task.
Firstly, the reason for the belt change was that on a cold start up (late November Scottish morning), the engine would emit that belt squeal noise, which did go away once the engine warmed up. There is an indicator on one of the pulleys to show if it's needing changed which was within the tolerance and not due to be changed, though I suspected it may be an aftermarket belt that a prior owner/garage may have fitted so I wanted to fit OEM belt to be sure. There was no sign of wear on the belt, though it's common for aftermarket belts to squeal, I believe OEM is a must for this.
The OEM belt was purchased from Nissan for £125 and the product code is 11720-JF00A
From this photo see the tensioner which shows 3 lines. In order to remove the old belt the tensioner needs to be pulled back so two holes line up for a small bar or screw driver shaft to be put through to keep it held back while changing.
At the bottom of the tensioner pulley you'll see a square hole which you can use to attach a breaker bar to allow you to gently push to the left so the holes align
Once this tensioner is held, it's a 2 minute job removing the old belt and replacing it with the new one in the correct belt direction.
Please see this picture of where the belt should be wrapped.
Once the new belt is on, use the breaker bar to gently release the pressure on the bar through the holes on the tensioner so you can remove the bar.
Allow the tensioner to take up the slack and remove our breaker bar.
Voila, it's changed.
The early morning squeal did indeed disappear, so on this occasion as I suspected, the OEM belt done the job to perfection
